Tata Motors, the country's largest automobile maker, is working to bring its new dual fuel, petrol and CNG variant of its entry level small car Nano in the domestic passenger car market. Presently the Tata Nano is in only petrol powered option, and there are rumours that the company is going to introduce the CNG model in the country.

The country’s largest passenger carmaker, Tata Motors, has pitched its Nano model in the entry level subcompact segment of the Indian auto market. The aggressive pricing has made Tata Nano one of the most sought after cars among the middle class Indian families, along with two wheeler owners who aspire towards upgrading to an affordable four wheeler.

The Nano model helped Tata Motors in establishing its image as a global automotive major. Evidently, Tata Nano took the worldwide automobile industry by storm when it was unveiled at the 2008 New Delhi Auto Expo as the ‘world's cheapest car', with a Rs. 1 lakh price tag. Tata Nano offers  fuel efficiency of 25.4 kmpl although it is a petrol powered vehicle and mileage comparable to diesel model.

Tata Motors planned to launch the CNG version of Nano after seeing the constant increase in prices of petrol.
