Rs 22,000 crore mobilised under Jan Dhan Yojana: Government
August 29, 2015: The government has said that it has deposited Rs. 22, 000 crore in 17.5 crore bank accounts within a year of the launch of the largest financial inclusion scheme in the world named as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
"At present, more than 17.5 crore bank accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. More than Rs 22,000 crore has been deposited by the people in their accounts opened under this scheme," the Finance Ministry said.
This ambitious scheme of financial inclusion was launched on August 28, 2014, by Mr. Narendera Modi.
The finance ministry is expecting to achieve the target of opening one account per household by January 26, 2016.
"PMJDY, the biggest financial inclusion initiative of the world launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014, has completed its first year today," the Ministry said.
It also added that 6.83 lakh account holders have been enrolled under Atal Pension Yojana.
