SERB-POWER Scheme (Promoting Opportunities for Women in Exploratory Research)

SERB-POWER Scheme (Promoting Opportunities for Women in Exploratory Research) program has been formulated to mitigate gender disparity in science and engineering research funding in various S&T programs in Indian academic institutions and R and D laboratories. SERB – POWER is a programme that is specifically designed to provide a structured effort toward increased diversity in research in order to ensure equal access and weighted opportunities for Indian women scientists engaged in research and development activities.

About the Scheme

The Scheme is under the Department of Science and Technology initiative (DST).
It will consist of two parts: (i) SERB-POWER Fellowships and

(ii) SERB-POWER Research Grants.

Eligibility

Emerging and eminent women researchers with regular academic/research positions in a recognised academic institution, national laboratory, or other recognised R&D institution in India.

Important Points

It is a programme designed specifically for female scientists to reduce gender disparities in science and engineering research in various science and technology (S&T) programmes at Indian academic institutions and research and development (R&D) laboratories.

It will serve as a national recognition benchmark, empowering women scientists, cultivating a women-friendly culture, and ensuring more women in leadership positions in decision-making bodies.

SERB-POWER Research Grants

Up to 50 Power Grants will be funded under two categories:

Level I: Up to 60 lakhs per year for three years for applicants from IITs, IISERs, IISc, NITs, Central Universities, and Central Government National Laboratories.

Level II: Up to Rs. 30 lakhs per year for three years for applicants from state universities/colleges and private academic institutions.

Grants are being governed by terms of reference that adhere to the SERB-Core Research Grant (CRG) guidelines.

Fellowship for SERB-POWER

Targets – Women researchers between the ages of 35 and 55, with a maximum of 25 Fellowships per year and no more than 75 at any one time.

Fellowship – Rs. 15,000/- per month on top of regular income; Research grant of Rs. 10 lakh per year; and Overhead of Rs. 90,000/- per year

Duration – Three years, with the option to extend once in a career.
