When the news of a hike in petrol prices was announced, people gave varied reactions. Somewhere shocked, somewhere sad but the unfortunate news and some were making fun out of it. People expressed their anger, grief and humour by tweeting their reactions. The social media platform got flooded with memes and jokes after the price of fuel had reached Rs 100. After the petrol prices crossed Rs 100 per litre, the netizens had a mixed reaction.

Twitter is mocking the present situation, sharing a picture of a bicycle that was turned into a bike using cardboards, and said that now Indians could only afford to ride this kind of bike. Even a caricature of a commoner saying “Kash Woh bure din hi wapas aate”, once again a mockery towards the Modi government. The photograph of the 1963 petrol bill, which cost 72 paise for a litre of petrol, also got viral. 

As per the price notification of state on fuel retailers, fuel and diesel price rose 35 paise and 23 paise per litre respectively. In Delhi fuel prices now stands at Rs 100.21, and Diesel at Rs. 89.53 per litre. Other cities in India also witnessed a hike in the price of petrol and diesel. And presently, unless it is essential, people do not prefer to buy a car.
