Atma-Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan: Rs 10,000 crore job work offered under MNREGA to migrant workers

Atma-Nirbhar Bharat AbhiyanUnion minister of finance Nirmala Sitharaman said, here on Thursday, work had been offered to 2.33 crore wagers in 1.87 lakh panchayats beneath the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Addressing a news conference of Atma-nirbhar India Abhiyan, Sitharaman said, “Work below the MGNREGA has been provided to 2.33 crore wagers in 1.87 lakh panchayats to learn migrant workers, who are being actively registered.

”The government had generated 14.62 crore person-days of work until May 13, that was 40-50 per cent a lot compared with May 2019. “This is to assist migrant labourers find work who have come to their home states,” she said.

The Central government has asked states to use the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to line up shelters and supply food and water to the urban poor, together with migrant labourers. “Rs 11,000 crore was sent for this purpose,” she said.

Steps Under Atma-nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan:

The minister of finance said self-help groups (SHGs) had provided 3 crore masks and 1.20 lakh litres sanitizers. 7,200 new SHGs had been formed to get employment throughout the lockdown, she added.

Firing a second salvo to limit COVID fallout, minister of finance Nirmala Sitharaman declared a Rs 3.16 lakh crore package comprising free foodgrains for migrant employees, Rs 2 lakh crore concessional credit to farmers and dealing capital for street vendors during a bid to assist those hit hard by the nationwide lockdown.

Besides the Wednesday”s Rs 5.94 lakh crore package that principally comprised off-budget credit line and support to small businesses, shadow banks and electricity distribution corporations, the govt has disclosed over Rs 9 lakh crore plans out of the Rs 20 lakh crore package declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to heal Asia”s third-largest economy that was seen moving towards its initial full-year contraction in four decades beneath the Atma-nirbhar India Abhiyan.

Sitharaman said every of the eight crore migrant employees, who had to go away their workplaces when the imposition of the lockdown on March 25, can get five kg grains and one kg pulses free for 2 months.
