National Ayush Mission will continue as a Centrally-Sponsored scheme
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday agreed that the national Ayush mission will continue as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme informed the Union Minister Anurag Thakur. He said that this will be for 5 years until 2026 but during this period between April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2026, there will only be Rs. 4607.30 crores spent.
It was informed that the Ayush Mission was being expanded to improve the holistic health of Indians.
Under this, old and traditional medicinal systems will be promoted along with new dispensaries, medical colleges, Hospitals, Ayush Wellness Centres will be set up and upgraded.
The change of the name of the North Eastern Institute of Folk medicine(NEIFM) to the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Folk Medicine Research (NEIAFMR).
These changes will also take place in the Memorandum of Association and Rules and Regulations were also agreed upon.
The inclusion of Ayurveda in the mandate will help there be development in that field as there will be research done, and it will also be beneficial to the North East as they will be imparting quality education.
The institute will not only be based in North-Eastern India but also in Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, Mongolia, China, and other Asian countries to increase the awareness of Ayurveda and increase the amount of research done in that field.
This mission will have only Rs. 4607.30 crores being spent on this field over the entire period, with Rs. 3000 crores as the central share and the rest as state share. The mission was founded on September 15, 2014.
The mission’s primary objective was to address the gaps in the health services with the help of State and UT governments, especially in the far-flung and remote areas. According to NAM, there will be higher attention towards these areas.
The cabinet expects the AYUSH healthcare services to be throughout the country and easy availability of medicines and AYUSH medicines throughout the country. They also hope to increase and improve the AYUSH healthcare institutes to make people aware of communicable and non-communicable diseases and hopefully reduce them.
