ICICI Bank in Chennai today announced the launch of the General Payment Card Scheme (CPCS) in partnership with Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and Chennai Smart City Limited (CSCL) to provide citizens with a single solution to receive various payments within and outside the city. Called the ‘Namma Chennai Smart Card’, a Rupay card with an integrated, cost-effective company, will facilitate a variety of digital payments such as tax payments and services at GCC facilities. In addition, the prepaid card helps pay for sales within Chennai as well as retail stores and commerce websites nationwide.
Tamil Prime Minister Nadu K. Palaniswami presented the ‘Namma Chennai Smart Card’ in front of Vetrivel G., Zonal Head – Institutional Business & GBG, ICICI Bank; Maddipatla Himadar, Zonal Head- Retail, ICICI Bank and other senior Bank officials.
Speaking on the partnership, Sudipta Roy, Head of Unsafe Assets, ICICI Bank, said, “This new proposal aims to offer the people of Chennai in an unparalleled way and is an important step in transforming it into Smart City. This is a testament to our efforts to create a small financial system across the country, thus encouraging our customers to become familiar with digital payment methods. “
With ‘Namma Chennai Smart Card’, citizens will be able to perform the following tasks:
- Payments at GCC facilities: Citizens can use the card to make tax/use payments at GCC facilities. The center will be available in a few weeks.
- Shop online and in stores: Armed with a card, residents can buy goods at retail stores, pay for movie tickets, eat and shop online at commerce websites nationwide.
- Manage the card online: The card is supported by a variety of features, where citizens can manage online seamlessly on a dedicated customer website. In addition, in the coming days, citizens will also be able to reload the card digitally via the UPI on the customer side or in the iSmart City app.
- Get exciting offers: Customers will also receive exciting card discounts throughout the year, which will be upgraded in the coming days on the Bank’s website.
The new initiative will make Chennai part of a list of overseas cities that offer a Payment Card platform to its residents by making seamless payments through a range of services within the city.
