Steel Minister RCP Singh to review PSU performance this week

Recently assigned Steel Minister RAM Chandra Prasad Singh has decided to take meetings with public sector undertakings (PSU) to assess their performance under his ministry. Newly-appointed Steel Minister R C P Singh to review PSU performance this week.

On Thursday, R C P Singh, a bureaucrat-turned-politician took charge as the country’s steel minister by replacing Dharmendra Pradhan, who has been assigned the ministry of education besides the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in the recent Cabinet reshuffle of the Modi 2.0 government. 

Singh will be taking meetings of performance review with PSUs (steel) this week, said the ministry official. Questioned about his prime concern after taking charge as the steel minister, 63-year-old Singh, who represents Bihar in Rajya Sabha, answered, I am new. I will attempt to study and learn new things after which only I will be able to tell better.

Under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Steel, there are seven public sector undertakings (PSUs). Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) manufacture steel; while NMDC and MOIL are into extracting iron ore and manganese ore, respectively.

KIOCL is a pellet maker and MECON Ltd is India’s frontline engineering, consultancy and contracting organization. MSTC Ltd issues e-commerce-associated services covering varied industry sections offering e-auction/ e-sale, e-procurement services and development of custom-made solutions.
