Plea for ₹5 lakh interest-free loan to lawyers
On Wednesday, the Delhi Supreme Court heard a request for financial assistance in the form of interest-free loans to defence lawyers registered with the Delhi Bar Council (BCD) during the ruling pandemic, calling for the position of the Center and the Delhi government request.
Supreme chief justice Judge D. Patel and Judge Jyoti Singh issued a notice calling on the Treasury Department, Delhi Government, BCD and Reserve Bank of India to respond to 14 lawyers’ plea. 
The court will order financial assistance of ₹ 5 lakh in the form of interest-free loans granted regardless of the attorney’s residential address or voter identification, provided they are registered with the BCD.
Kumar Tiwari, who is also one of the petitioners, has argued that the financial assistance would help the lawyers “meet their basic needs and survive with dignity, paying for school fees, their outstanding EMIs against their various loans/payments. with a credit card, etc. ”.
“Meeting their basic survival needs and paying the school fees and monthly loan instalments have become a real problem as there is no constant and guaranteed income from freelancers and litigants due to the ongoing closure of the country’s courts, including the higher courts,” the petition says.
Which claims that the “acute financial crisis” lawyers are facing is evident from the massive gathering of defence lawyers who procured 10 kg of atta, 2 kg of sugar, 5 kg of rice and other items recently distributed by the BCD has applied to provide each attorney with an interest-free loan of 5 lakh for a period of five years.
