West Bengal finance minister Amit Mitra to GST council: Accept 0-rated tax for Covid essentials

NEW DELHI: West Bengal Amit Mitra, Finance Minister on Tuesday encouraged that the GST Council consent to acknowledge zero appraised charge for all Covid related materials, hardware, medications and antibodies. 

In a letter to Nirmala Sitharaman, Union finance minister, Mitra said this will permit the makers and their store network business people to benefit from input tax reduction also, there would be no unfavourable effect on costs for buyers. 

“You would concur that this is an amazingly troublesome time concerning the existences of a large number of individuals and we need to exceed everyone’s expectations for viably dealing with the emergency brought about by this pandemic. The third wave also can’t be precluded,” Mitra said in his letter to Sitharaman. “..It is time we take drastic actions to carry alleviation to individuals,” the Bengal FM said. 

The following GST Council meeting will happen on May 28. A few states had requested that the board meeting examine a few extraordinary issues.
