All About Rakhi Yojana
Our government have made many efforts to bring the excluded under the fold of formal financial service. This drive is known as ‘Jan Dhan to Jansuraksha’. There are currently three schemes under this drive. These are the Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). The government is to add one more scheme to this catalogue. It would most probably be named as ‘Uphaar Yojana’ or ‘Raksha Bandhan Yojana’.
Under Rakhi Yojana scheme, the Finance Ministry has suggested a fixed deposit (FD) scheme to banks in which brothers can open a fixed deposit of at least Rs 5,000 for their sisters. This scheme will be topped up with some freebies to attract depositors.
The government will make use of the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival to promote the project. Free life and accident insurance will be added to the scheme to make it more popular among people.
‘Uphaar Yojana help promote the cause of Financial Inclusion and would help banks to get more low-cost deposits. So far approximately 10 Crore people have been covered under the Financial Inclusion plans. Even if people half of this number buy the Rs. 5,000 deposit then even a huge sum of money will flow into the banking sector.
